No matter how small devices get, you still have to get a speaker near your ear and microphone near your mouth, which generally requires a certain minimum dimension unless your fingers can do the talking while you’re walking.

The Sngl taps into a wristband and turns your fingers into the receiver, requiring no speaker on the device. Audio is directed to the ear via vibrations through your body while you talk into the band.

While you can wear it as a wristband, the device also doubles as a watch strap (for conventional or smart watches) so you can tie it right into another wearable you already carry with you – one less device!

The project comes from Innomdle Lab, a startup that’s been spun out of Samsung. Eventually something like this could be tied into a smartwatch design completely, but for now at least you can wrap your wrist and look like a secret agent while you talk on the phone (or a new-fangled Inspector Gadget).

“There’s no one who never lost their earphone in their lifetime. With Sgnl, you can keep your cell phone alone in your pocket and simply raise your hand to answer a phone call without carrying any extra headset or earphone. When you place your finger to your ear, your finger not only transmits the sound but it also blocks out background noise. Developed by XMatter, the X15 chews through a few gallons a minute, so you may want to consider fuel costs as well before buying one, but the company also supplies bulk napalm packs to keep you topped off.

Apparently the device is relatively unregulated in most states and requires a permit in others. It sort of sounds like fun abstractly, or in the hands of a Burning Man artists or art car, but in practical reality, someone is probably going to get burned. Still, if you really want to go wild, you can duel-wield as well, like the individual in the video above.

This dynamic braille-screened smartwatch dynamically raises points (or: dots) above its surface, allowing the blind to read text messages or translate webpages right on their wrists.

Sleekly designed like other hot smartwatches on the market, the Dot can show up to four characters at a time at customizable speeds, representing a dramatic change from clunky USB-plugged computer adapters and potentially distracting text-to-voice translators.

The Dot is just 1/20th of the size of these traditional terminals and 1/10th of the cost. A new type of actuator makes it possible to present braille with much less technological baggage (and cost). Oh, and it tells the time too.

Dots, the South Korean startup behind the device founded by four design and technology students, aims to release this gadget for just a few hundred dollars, much cheaper than traditional braille conversion devices and of course much more portable as well. “Until now, if you got a message on iOS from your girlfriend, for example, you had to listen to Siri read it to you in that voice, which is impersonal. Wouldn’t you rather read it yourself and hear your girlfriend’s voice saying it in your head?”

The Cicret Bracelet is a wristband that turns your arm into a tablet, allowing you to use swipe, tap and pinch gestures along your own appendage instead of on a built-in screen. Naturally, it is possible to also use this device on either wrist for those who are left- or right-handed.

The tiny projector works in concert with a series of long-range proximity sensors and, while still being developed, is intended to come in multiple storage capacities, sizes and colors. Games, maps, phone calls, the device will do anything your current mobile gadget can.

Freeing up your hands, pockets and desktops from excessive hardware, this design combines elements of smartphones, computers and smart watches but also proposes a novel predictive piece, forecasting the future on demand right into the palm of your hand.

A wrist-worn and tabletop pair of projectors display data on your hands and walls, respectively, using hand gestures for interaction with dots of different sizes and colors (denoting importance and category).

The idea is not to replace your computer or phone keyboards but to provide a faster and easier way to sift through important updates and see what is happening in your world, socially and otherwise. Detailed responses would still take place through the use of other familiar device types.

The result is something both aesthetically impressive but also functional and intuitive – a system you could learn to interface with quickly and easily, and one that reduces the need to pull out your phone or flip open your laptop. Think of it like the next level up from a smartwatch (with limited display space) or Google Now (which is intelligent but still takes more time to interact with and scroll through).

Designed by Dor Tal, the system “largely consists of two parts. The first part constitutes an app that scours for the digital data an individual and his social circle produces. This app then connects the dots to make sensible patterns and intelligently proposes future outcomes. The second part consists of systems that interfaces with the individual. The interaction with the individual is made possible using intuitive interfaces projected on a variety of surfaces using a smart watch or a desktop pico projector.”
