The Polaris Sportsman WV850 H.O. all-terrain vehicle comes with all the fixings and then some, built to military specifications and featuring non-pneumatic bulletproof tires. No surprise: it was developed for the United State military, able to tackle tricky terrain under fire.

This essentially indestructible ATV features ‘terrain armor’ tire tech out of Minnesota (a state known for its cold and hot extremes), which allow tight cornering and high speeds in difficult conditions and all weather.

According to their makers, these “tires enhance the ‘WV850’s’ center-of-gravity and cornering.” The 77-horsepower off-roader also comes with a single-speed transmission, a high-strength steel exoskeleton, steel racks, plus a huge towing capacity (1,500 lb (680.4 kg)).

The vehicle’s non-pneumatic tires are “designed to cope with combat-level stress; they can withstand .50 caliber gunshots, even AK47 bullet damage, and roll away from ballistic scenes like nothing happened.” Might be a bit overkill, but still fun, for an everyday consumer.

At the intersection of 3D printing, autonomous vehicles and IBM’s famously advanced Watson computing platform sits Olli, an electric vehicle that can carry up to a dozen people.

This smart bus design features 30 advanced sensors to help it navigate around and communicate with other vehicles on the road. It is the first vehicle to use cloud-based computing from Watson to analyze high volumes of transportation data on the go.

It is also meant to humanize the experience of driverless vehicles, allowing passengers to interact conversationally with the machine on their ways to various destinations, “discussing topics about how the vehicle works, where they are going and why the car is making specific driving decisions.”

“These interactions are designed to create more pleasant, comfortable, intuitive and interactive experiences for riders as they journey in autonomous vehicles.”

With no need for a driver, passengers are able to sit anywhere and look out the windows, entering and exiting through a bus-like door much as they would on other forms of public transportation. The Olli could also help bridge the gap between large public systems and smaller forms of point-to-point transit.

One could call it the Rolls Royce of concept cars, especially since this is their first foray into the realm of conceptual vehicles, and it truly is outfitted with everything worth of a futuristic luxury ride.

Aside from the futuristic look and artificial intelligence that helps riders select from entertainment options, the Rolls-Royce Vision Next 100 also rolls out a red carpet, projecting red light from its side for when its passengers enter and exit. The virtual assistant accepts destinations by voice and advises the car’s occupants about upcoming meetings or events on its way to various destinations.

Inside, the lounge-like interior features wood paneling, deep pile carps, and a wool and silk sofa facing an entertainment screen that can double as a workstation.

It is designed to “anticipate the mobility demands of the luxury customer of the future” featuring a smaller engine space cleared out to make way for more luggage.

“The wheels are housed in individual cases, with exposed arms and struts that connect to the chassis and also support the hull-shaped body at the front. The 28-inch tall but narrow wheels upon which the car glides are each hand-built from 65 individual pieces of aluminium, and enclosed to deliver the impression of a futuristic catamaran”

“From whatever angle the Rolls-Royce Vision Next 100 is viewed, it seems to float, whether at rest or in motion. This lightness is achieved through the paring back of this vehicle to the essence of a Rolls-Royce by the design team, who were freed from their current constraints by the new propulsion and coach-build technologies now available to them.”

In a recently-unveiled redesign for Lincoln’s Navigator series, gullwing doors and side stairs dominate the graphics, making entering and exiting a luxurious-looking experience.

Shown at the New York Auto Show, this concept involves design lessons from luxury sailboats, including clean lines and sea-and-sky tones of blue and gray.

The ‘navigator concept’ features a 3.5 liter twin-turbo V6 engine delivering more than 400 horsepower that adapts to different road surfaces and changing weather conditions. Drivers can choose several modes to improve ride and handling, with each accompanied by a matching digital animation on the dashboard.

The interior features leather-wrapped seats, adjustable to various body types, and a custom wardrobe management system for travelers (or James Bond types).

Going well beyond just being a ‘radar detecting’ device, this high-tech gizmo uses multiple strategies to identify not just speed traps with police vehicles but also warning you of red light intersection ticketing cameras.

The makers of 360 Max are so confident in their all-in-one solution they even attach a warranty to the device: if you get a ticket while using it, the company will reimburse you for your trouble.

Unlike classic radar detectors which search different frequency bans for radar signals, this gizmo stays on the lookout for overhead aircraft and ticketing cams, all while avoiding false positives (a bane of old devices). It also tells you the direction and distance of a perceived threat, letting you know where to look or what to worry about. A magnetic mount lets you quickly slip the gadget out of view when pulled over.

It does this with a combination of techniques, including AutoLearn, a self-educating system that logs frequencies and locations and assesses their threat levels. Another key to the system is its secretive database of red light cameras, derived from third-party sources. Air patrols are the trickiest since they can be out of range of the device, so for now the database contains maps of known areas of coverage.
