Designed to leave accidents in the dust, this zero-emissions Motorrad Vision Next 100 uses self-balancing technology that purports to make the vehicle accident-proof and even let bikers ride sans helmet.

“We imagine all the downsides of riding a motorcycle to be gone,” said the designers. “The vehicle will be so safe that you cannot fall over, and accidents will be a thing of the past.”

As the user rides, the balancing system keeps the bike upright and adjusts banking angles while smart glasses screen ahead for hazards (a real trouble spot with fast riding even on open country roads).

Moving the handlebars adjusts the entire frame, not just the front wheel.  The design of the bike is largely based on the BMW R32, which was designed in 1923. The R32’s triangular frame has been reinterpreted, with bearings and joints hidden to make the frame appear as a singular volume.

The surface of the frame is covered in matt black textile, while body elements such as the seat, upper frame cover and wings are made of carbon fibre. The BMW logo is illuminated in blue and white colours while the bike is being driven, and red strips under the seat form the rear light and indicators.

One could call it the Rolls Royce of concept cars, especially since this is their first foray into the realm of conceptual vehicles, and it truly is outfitted with everything worth of a futuristic luxury ride.

Aside from the futuristic look and artificial intelligence that helps riders select from entertainment options, the Rolls-Royce Vision Next 100 also rolls out a red carpet, projecting red light from its side for when its passengers enter and exit. The virtual assistant accepts destinations by voice and advises the car’s occupants about upcoming meetings or events on its way to various destinations.

Inside, the lounge-like interior features wood paneling, deep pile carps, and a wool and silk sofa facing an entertainment screen that can double as a workstation.

It is designed to “anticipate the mobility demands of the luxury customer of the future” featuring a smaller engine space cleared out to make way for more luggage.

“The wheels are housed in individual cases, with exposed arms and struts that connect to the chassis and also support the hull-shaped body at the front. The 28-inch tall but narrow wheels upon which the car glides are each hand-built from 65 individual pieces of aluminium, and enclosed to deliver the impression of a futuristic catamaran”

“From whatever angle the Rolls-Royce Vision Next 100 is viewed, it seems to float, whether at rest or in motion. This lightness is achieved through the paring back of this vehicle to the essence of a Rolls-Royce by the design team, who were freed from their current constraints by the new propulsion and coach-build technologies now available to them.”

As much a psychological experiment as crowd-sourced art project, this series of 3D-modeled bicycles is based on sketches made from the memories of participants trying to recall how bikes are put together, then turned into fully-rendered prototypes.

Gianluca Gimini, a designer in Bologna, Italy, asked friends, family and strangers how they remembered a bicycle working, but without being able to look at an actual bike.

He collected hundreds of the resulting drawings, then started turning them into photo-realistic renders which look laughable but reflect a quirk of psychology that allows many of us to forget just how things go together.

In his ‘Celocipedia,’ he found “there is an incredible diversity of new typologies emerging from these crowd-sourced and technically error-driven drawings. A single designer could not invent so many new bike designs in 100 lifetimes and this is why I look at this collection in such awe.”

Pyramidal and otherworldly in its shape, this concept yacht is not as impossible as it appears, seeming to lift almost entirely off the water in the design renderings by Jonathan Schwinge. More than just an aesthetic ideal, the resulting experience would be faster and smoother for passengers.

The Tetra yacht (short for tetrahedron), uses foils for lift, it begins from the water as it increases speed, ultimately reducing drag from the surface and allowing the vessel to cruise faster, then setting back down on its main hull when stopped or slowed.

A narrow strut is dropped as the vehicle lifts, then retracted as it comes down. From an engineering standpoint, the design does not require new technologies, just dynamic redeployment of existing structural approaches, transforming to each configuration of use.

From the team behind the Tetra: “The design is instigated by the re-thinking of the form, superstructure and propulsion of the modern superyacht into a radically simple enclosure and an elevated mode of travel above the water line. The concept design of this HYSWAS craft is based upon an existing hull design that has been developed by several companies, notably the Maritime Applied Physics Corporation in America.”

A recently-patented, rocket-powered jet designed by Airbus is akin to the classic fast-paced Concorde, but this 2.0 version blows away the latter’s Mach 2 capacity with a top cruising speed of Mach 4.5 (or: 3000 MPH, more than four times the speed of sound) at an altitude of 100,000 feet.

The jet uses a series of three engines to create a sequential set of speed boosts, maximizing acceleration and deceleration at each stage to minimize time spent during take offs and landings. Twin turbojets beneath the body and a rocket motor in the rear also allow the machine to lift off and land vertically. Hydrogen ramjets – yes, the kind used to propel missiles – get the contraption to its cruising speed and altitude.

Approved by the US Patents and Trademarks Office, this fantastic flying machine could pick you up in New York City and drop you off in London just one hour later.  Of course, you’ll have to be seated in rotating hammocks on the new Concorde 2.0 to handle the forces involved. Apparently there is a plan to help the vehicle dissipate its sonic booms – the prior iteration could not reach supersonic speeds over land without having severely negative impacts for those on the ground below.
