Train car graffiti can get a little out of hand sometimes – most of us can’t imagine what those letters and symbols are supposed to mean, and the spray paint art can cost a lot to clean up. Here’s one piece of fine graffiti art that we hope never gets painted over, though. Spotted by Reddit user Kgriffin88, this Nintendo-themed train car is crazy cool.

Any Nintendo player in the world will quickly point out that there is an extra red button on the controller. This wasn’t due to ignorance on the artist’s part. The creator of this masterpiece, Texer, placed three buttons with the initials of his “crew” – A, L, and B – on the controller. This might result in a bit of nerd rage, but the fact that a Nintendo controller-themed train car exists just makes our whole day better.

The post Nerdiness On the Go: Nintendo Controller Train Car Graffiti first appeared on Gajitz.

Have you ever wanted to be someone else just for a little while? Artist Katsuki Nogami lets people do that…in a way. The Yamada Taro Project involves people walking through public spaces in Tokyo and Berlin with iPads occupying the space where their faces would usually be visible.

The iPad-faced people wander through crowds, asking for permission to use individuals’ faces in the art project. Most people seem amused by the concept and delighted to have their face used in the project. The iPad faces then snap photos of willing people, adjusting the photos until they fill the screen.

<iframe type='text/html' src='http://player.vimeo.com/video/82250584' height='350' width='468' allowfullscreen=' frameborder='0'>

The faces are displayed in real time in both cities, letting folks travel without leaving the city they are physically in. The name of the project is a very common Japanese name, similar to John Smith. The project explores the subject of anonymity, letting both the iPad wearer and the temporary faces both step out of their bodies and become another person temporarily.

The post Face Off and On: iPad Faces Explore Feelings of Anonymity first appeared on Gajitz.

Playing video games on your TV or iPad will never feel quite as rewarding again after you watch this video. A group of digital artists took over a building on one of Sao Paulo, Brazil’s busiest streets in April 2013 and turned it into the world’s largest interactive arcade.

The gaming surface took up the entire facade of the building – around 30,000 square feet. Passers-by could use their iPads to control some old-school games like Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Tetris.

While it would be undoubtedly awesome to play on such a gigantic surface, people who got to play with the big arcade said it was a bit intimidating to have everyone on the street watching their performance. We can’t say we blame them – we never could get that last guy on Space Invaders.

The post Brazilian Building Turns Into Enormous 80s Arcade Game first appeared on Gajitz.

Nigerian weaver Ojo Obaniyi has been honing his craft for more than 20 years. He usually sticks to baskets and other traditional objects, but he came up with an ingenious way to advertise his business: he made a wicker-covered car.

Ojo’s Volkswagen pickup is almost entirely covered in raffia palm cane. The car’s body, hubcaps, seats, dashboard and even the steering wheel are all covered in a finely woven layer of wicker.

According to Ojo, his goal was to prove to the world that everyone can make a difference, no matter what their social class or background.

The car is Ojo’s way of showing the entire world that African artisans are talented and creative and able to make a positive impact on society.

After the car’s completion, Ojo attached banners with his name and phone number to the front and back bumpers, giving him a rolling billboard that is also proof of how masterful he is at his craft.

The post Basket Case: Weaver’s Wicker Truck is a Woven Wonder Wagon first appeared on Gajitz.

The vending machine is usually associated with the negative aspects of our culture: instant gratification, over-consumption, mindless consumerism. But this vending machine is very different. It is known as the Swap-O-Matic, and its goal is to change the way we think about acquiring objects. Rather than rushing off to the store to buy something brand new, why not swap something you have and don’t want for something you don’t have but need? The Swap-O-Matic is like a swap meet that’s free for everyone but which causes positive social change.

The machine works solely on credits – no money ever changes hands. As seen in the video above, shoppers use credits to pull items that they want out of the machine and earn credits by donating items. Safeguards like user flagging are in place to ensure that the honor system isn’t abused. The Swap-O-Matic is part social commentary and part pop-up store; it has appeared in several NY locations and continues to travel around the city, bringing with it a message of reducing, reusing and recycling.

The post Swap Meet in a Box: Exchange Old Stuff for New Stuff, Free first appeared on Gajitz.
