This radically redesigned power strip gives a safe and secure place to plug in your devices without littering your floor with excess lengths of cord. The Hechek outlet was designed by Zohreh Pahlevan, Sina Gavili, and Ghader Ebrahimian Nejad as an attractive and effective cord control device.

With three outlets to plug things in to, the Hechek takes on a sort of hand-like configuration. Whatever length of cord is not needed to go from the power strip to the wall is wound around the prongs of the device to keep it out of the way.

The Hechek features a safety-conscious design that would require the top parts of each of the prongs to be rotated before anything can be plugged into them. Red and green lights at the tips would indicate the status of each prong: ready or not ready. Thanks to the stable base and 360-degree rotating prongs, the Hechek can take on any number of convenient configurations to fit a certain space.

Due to our collective love of gadgets, most homes in the developed world have at least one or two power strips in them. This strange blobby object, believe it or not, is a conceptual redesign of the ubiquitous power strip, but without the rigid rectangular shape.

Designed by a group of students, the odd power strip is meant to be supremely flexible. Its amorphous shape can be changed at will, allowing it to fit into any space and even to span a distance such as a pair of wall shelves.

Plugs can be fitted into the power blob at any location, allowing users to easily find a spot for any gadget without contorting the plug. It isn’t clear just how many things could be plugged into the blob at a time, but since this concept has yet to be built the inventors have time to figure out those details.

Ugly power strips probably aren’t the worst problem you’ll deal with in your life, but they’re annoying anyway. The PlugBook is a pretty clever way to keep a couple of extra plugs handy without the typical power strip uglying up your space.

The PlugBook takes the shape and size of a book (the old-fashioned kind, with pages made of paper). It sits on your bookshelf when you aren’t using it, staying neatly out of place but still readily at hand. When you need it, you pull out the 3-meter-long cord and plug your devices into the two outlets. Two integrated USB outlets also let you charge phones, cameras, e-readers and other gizmos.

When you’re done, the cord retracts with the simple push of a button. The PlugBook is still in the fundraising stage at the moment, but the inventor has worked with an established company with experience in designing specialty plugs. It will eventually come in two varieties: one for the US and one for most of Europe.

Don’t you hate it when you need to unplug one gadget from a crowded power strip and you find yourself sifting through tangled cords, trying to track down the one you need? Designer Soon Mo Kang hates it, too, and so the Multi-Tab Power Strip was born.

The innovative power strip isn’t a huge leap from the power strips most of us use right now, but it has a few important differences. Each tab features a picture of the device that’s plugged into it, giving you a much easier time when trying to disconnect one or more appliances.

The modular tabs connect Lego-style, letting you make your own power strip that’s as big or as small as you need it to be. The tabs also feature rocking faces, so pushing on one end will push the plug out of the outlet, disconnecting the power. The overall aesthetic is a huge improvement over the functional-but-ugly power strips present in most homes today.
