Folding and throwing paper airplanes is an indisputably fun hobby, but it’s frustrating when you can’t get the folds quite right and your plane sinks rather than sails. John Collins holds the Guinness World Record for designing and folding the longest-flying paper airplane, and he has made the design available to the world.

The airplane design is called the Suzanne, and she’s a serious beauty. In the below video, Collins demonstrates how to fold your own Suzanne from beginning to end.

Using nothing more than a piece of paper, a creasing tool (which you can either find at a craft store or simply use a ruler or other hard-edged object) and a chip clip, Collins shows the folds that make up the world’s longest flying paper airplane.

The video above shows the Suzanne in its history-making flight. While your homemade version might not be quite as impressive as Collins’ creation, it’s bound to be way better than the ones you used to throw at your high school algebra teacher’s back.

Now that every last American is carrying an iPhone (we may be exaggerating slightly), there is never a lack of cool iPhone cases in the stores. But if you really can’t find the right one or just enjoy embracing the DIY spirit, Korean design firm Connect Design have a cute way to make your own. Their DIY iPhone NeoCase is a flexible case featuring a cross-stitching grid design so you can make it look however you like.

The Connect Design team has worked up a number of cute and geeky patterns for you to use if you need them, or you can make up your own design. You can even embellish with things like beads and ribbons…if that’s your thing.

It looks like it would be pretty difficult to cross stitch anything on the case thanks to its shape, but apparently it can be done. The patterns on the site range from holiday motifs to Nintendo characters to kitty cats to all sorts of other adorable nerd stuff. Each kit will cost you $18 and fits iPhone 4 and 4S.

Cosby sweaters are generally the least cool thing you could possibly wear, but it turns out that there’s at least one that we wouldn’t mind wearing. This literal Cosby sweater was made by Andrew Salamone on a hacked knitting machine from the 1980s. Instead of knitting the usual stripes or bizarre abstract patterns knitting machines are known for, this one acts sort of like a printer that uses yarn instead of ink.

Salamone demonstrated his awesome invention at the World Maker Faire New York 2011, where he showed off some of his incredible creations. They included a ski mask with an image of his face on the front, a scarf imprinted with a famous break beat and the amazing sweater featuring a picture of Bill Cosby wearing a sweater featuring a picture of Bill Cosby. Salamone mentioned that he made the sweater for Mr. Cosby himself, but no word yet on whether Bill is actually wearing the trippy creation.

All too often, gadgets become status symbols rather than the helpful tools they are meant to be. To combat this and make desirable gadgets affordable enough for absolutely everyone, designer/photographer Matthew Nicholson has invented the Lie-ca. The beautiful camera is a cardstock replica of a highly sought-after Leica camera.

The paper camera is made from a 10-page template which can be downloaded from Nicholson’s site for a mere £1.50. But far from just looking like a genuine Leica, the papercraft gadget actually functions as a 35mm camera.

This DIY pinhole camera certainly won’t perform as well as the well-loved German Leica cameras, but it’s a much cheaper way to sport the coveted look of the Leica. Photographers who just can’t afford the real article will appreciate the humor in taking pictures with a Lie-ca which cost only pocket change to purchase and a few minutes to assemble.

One of the coolest items offered up by RecycledRetroGear is this external memory unit made from old NES cartridges. Available in sizes up to 1 TB of memory, the memory cartridges are USB-powered and would look wicked on any gamer’s desk.
