Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland has scarcely lost any popularity since it was originally published in 1865. Its imaginative characters and delightfully nonsensical plot have enchanted readers for generations. The Cheshire Cat, one of the most beloved anthropomorphic characters from the novel, is brought to glowing life in this concept pocket watch that uses the Cat’s disappearing talent to tell the time.
Bits of the cat appear in five-minute increments: his smile appears at five minutes past the hour, his head at 10 minutes, and the stripes of his body at every five-minute interval thereafter. Single minutes are represented by four small dots between the 12 and 1 on the watch’s face.
The watch blends this classic character and timeless pocket watch shape with the very modern face design and USB recharging capability. The terribly adorable pocket watch is an entry in TokyoFlash’s ongoing product design contest; if the design receives enough positive feedback it may eventually be put into production.
