Biking is an undeniably fun way to get around, but there’s always something to be said for going for a nice stroll. That nice stroll, however, can easily make you late. The Walking Bicycle is a cool retro-looking compromise that lets you get from one place to another with the leisurely pleasure of walking but the expedited speed of biking.
The Walking Bicycle Club is behind the rather adorable contraption, which is operated with a normal walking motion. Kind of like an elliptical machine on wheels that’s meant to be used outdoors, the Walking Bike takes the backside pain out of bike riding.
But because walking long distances can get tiring – particularly when going up hills – the Walking Bicycle contains an electric motor powered by a lithium ion battery. The motor can be turned on constantly or just when the rider needs a little extra boost. The battery can achieve speeds of up to 15 MPH and last 12 miles on a single charge.
At 80 pounds, the Walking Bicycle is heavier than even most electric bikes on the streets of the U.S. today. But the body is small at two feet long and four feet wide, making it easy enough to store away in your home or office…provided you can haul the heavy beast to a storage area.
