We didn’t think it was possible to make a classic Volkswagen Beetle even more beautiful, but Croatian metalworkers MG Vrbanus found a way to make it so. They started with a 1970 Bug and turned it into a sophisticated, intricately detailed wrought iron masterpiece.

The metal shop started out by sketching a design right onto the body of the car. Step by step, they removed the template and replaced the original body with carefully designed wrought iron pieces.

The skilled craftspeople put more than 3500 hours and 5,000 Swarovski crystals into the re-do. Hundreds or pounds of wrought iron and gold leaf went into the project as well, resulting in a body that exposes the car’s inner workings. The gorgeous vehicle is reportedly available to rent for weddings and other special occasions, which really makes us wish we lived in Croatia.

If you have a need to make a truly badass impression, there is no better way than driving around in this VW Transporter that’s been turned into an all-weather, all-terrain tank. But this beast doesn’t just get you to your destination in jaw-dropping style; it can turn any parking lot into an impromptu party in minutes.

The Frankenstein-esque bus features an automatic pop-up top and a robust sound system. It can be used for parties or public gatherings, or wherever a really loud sound system in a very attractive package would come in handy. The project was achieved by Austrian promotions company BB Support by combining an old VW Bus T1 and a 1960s Bombardier B01Spurgerät snow machine.

BB Support had the idea for the crazy vehicle back in 2005, but it took quite a while to actually put the plan into action. After clients began to show interest in using a mobile DJ machine with the body of a beloved Volkswagen, the team put the two vehicles together and made one of the most beautiful mash-ups the world has ever seen.

Nigerian weaver Ojo Obaniyi has been honing his craft for more than 20 years. He usually sticks to baskets and other traditional objects, but he came up with an ingenious way to advertise his business: he made a wicker-covered car.

Ojo’s Volkswagen pickup is almost entirely covered in raffia palm cane. The car’s body, hubcaps, seats, dashboard and even the steering wheel are all covered in a finely woven layer of wicker.

According to Ojo, his goal was to prove to the world that everyone can make a difference, no matter what their social class or background.

The car is Ojo’s way of showing the entire world that African artisans are talented and creative and able to make a positive impact on society.

After the car’s completion, Ojo attached banners with his name and phone number to the front and back bumpers, giving him a rolling billboard that is also proof of how masterful he is at his craft.

This unbelievably awesome Volkswagen T1 van turned Imperial AT-AT Walker is just about the greatest mashup of two already-great things we have ever seen. If it actually worked as a vehicle rather than the coolest art car ever, we don’t even want to think about what we’d do to get our hands on it.

There doesn’t seem to be much information about the VW AT-AT other than it seems to be located somewhere in Europe, but that’s okay. When something is this excellent and geeky, pictures are enough.

Pop tops, those soft-sided height extenders that give campers a little more room inside VW vans, are almost a necessity among serious VW enthusiasts. But a Welsh company called Overlander Motorhomes is taking that concept several steps further with the DoubleBack. Their creation adds an additional 6.5 feet of usable camping space onto the back end of a T5 Transporter van.

The DoubleBack looks like a regular van when it’s on the move. It’s only when it stops for the night that the modifications become apparent. The simple touch of a button extends the pod in less than 45 seconds, including two stabilizing, self-leveling legs. The back part of the van transforms from a cargo area to a small kitchenette and sleeping area with a double bed. A pop-up top adds some vertical space as well.

While there are plenty of VW enthusiasts out there who would be willing to pay almost any amount for unique VW vehicles, the nearly $87,000 price tag on the DoubleBack will deter all but the wealthiest buyers. This is particularly so since there are plenty of more functional, bigger and less expensive campers on the market. But they, of course, don’t have the benefit of being a transforming Volkswagen.
