The way we take photographs has changed drastically in the past decade. So, too, have the instruments we use. Now more than ever, our important moments are being captured on cell phones and sports cameras like the GoPro. Casio is taking us one step further toward the future of photography with the Exilim EX-FR10, a camera that splits in half to double its photo-taking power.

The Exilim looks a lot like a normal (if somewhat clunky) digital camera in its connected form. It can be used in this form for taking photos, or the viewfinder can swivel around to help you take the perfect selfie. The camera goes one step further, though, by detaching entirely into two parts. The lens unit and controller unit can then be placed and used in separate locations.

The camera’s lens unit comes with accessories that let it be worn on a strap around the user’s neck, on a hat, on a wrist, or clipped to a backpack strap. It can be attached to a tripod for standard, steady shooting.

When separated, the control unit lets the user preview and frame shots. It also comes with a clip and loop so it can be attached securely to the user’s clothing or gear between shots.

Bluetooth lets the two pieces communicate, and both are tough enough to handle dust, rain, and fall of up to two meters. With HD video capability and decent (if somewhat surprisingly low-res) 14 megapixel stills, the Exilim EX-FR10 might be the next must-have adventure camera for outdoor selfie enthusiasts.

It’s no secret that some drivers get so impatient with cyclists that they resort to bullying behavior or straight-out aggression. It’s often hard for the cyclist to find out who the aggressive driver was, and nearly impossible to have the driver brought to justice. That’s the problem the team behind Fly6 want to solve.

Their invention is an HD camera/tail light that fits onto the back of any standard bike. It keep the cyclist safe by lighting up their bike, but it also serves an equally important function: it records the actions (and license plate numbers) of drivers who are aggressive or careless around cyclists. The camera’s battery can last up to five hours and its 8GB SD memory card can record about two hours of continuous footage.

The Fly6 isn’t all about the serious stuff – it can also be used when you’re riding with friends, exploring, mountain biking or just out for a leisurely ride. Overall, though, the Fly6 is meant to call attention to its camera to remind motorists to behave themselves while behind the wheel. The Kickstarter campaign for the project easily flew past its goal, proving that there are a lot of bike riders out there who see the need for increased security measures when they ride.

We all know the number of consequences that can happen when a pet dog, cat, or bird gets out and has the chance to run around – but have you ever wondered what a goldfish would do if allowed to escape its bowl and explore the world? Studio diip did, and so the Fish on Wheels project was hilariously brought to life.

The device is designed to let a typical pet fish dictate where it goes by swimming in that direction. It consists of a tank of water attached to wheels, a digital camera mounted above the tank, and a tiny computer and micro-controller. The camera sees the fish’s position in the tank and which way it is moving, then steers the little water-car around in that direction.

While not entirely a serious project intended to actually be used in homes, the Fish on Wheels experiment shows that the technology used in the setup doesn’t have to be limited to the usual robotics projects we’re all used to seeing. It’s a fun demonstration of how technology can be used even to empower a fish – but whether the fish is smart enough to realize it’s driving the vehicle is entirely a matter of speculation.

Every athlete has felt it: the need to share their accomplishments on the field, pitch, slopes, trails or wherever they perform at their best. For the most part, the action cameras available are the very conspicuous kind – the kind that you stick onto your helmet or handlebars and announce to everyone “I’m recording my awesome sports moves!” The Spy Tec Inventio-HD 720P HD video sunglasses let you catch all of the action discreetly from a first-person angle – then relive your greatest accomplishments the second you get into the vicinity of a TV.

We were supplied with a pair of the glasses to review, and we wore them around for a while to get a feel for their style and functionality. As you can tell from the picture above, they look just like a normal pair of sports sunglasses, though they may not look entirely natural on a small-featured face. The issue of the sunglasses’ size is a minor one, particularly when you remember that you can use these glasses to record everything you’re seeing and hearing at all times. Or at least for the two or so hours of recording time that the Li-ion battery will give you per charge.

Recording video and taking still pictures with the Inventio HD sunglasses couldn’t be easier. To start recording you simply push an inconspicuous button on the side of the earpiece. Unfortunately (for this writer, at least) the LED that indicates when the glasses are recording was set back just far enough that the glasses have to be off in order to make sure they’re on and recording.

Bright and moderate-light video come out great, but the Inventio’s strong suit is definitely not low-light recording. Then again, they’re sunglasses and that really isn’t what they are meant to do. The image stabilization was better than expected for high-action video, and the USB charging cord also features component plugs that let you plug right into a TV and relive your sporty fun just as soon as you get home. Overall, for sports enthusiasts who want to keep a record of how rad their trail rides or mountain climbs are, you can’t beat the quality and ease of use of the Inventio HD Recording Sunglasses for $129.95.
