Based on the instant gratification, user-friendly trend that has pervaded DIY technological advances, the Freenter uses a handheld printer (which resembles a pregnant iPad) to put prints on your walls. You can create your own design by drawing or typing on the device. Then, you simply swipe it across the wall to create instant wallpaper. Want an orange unicorn frolicking in a pile of pandas on your wall? If you can draw it, you can make it into your new wall decoration.

Coffee tables are, generally speaking, pretty boring pieces of furniture. But not so with the NES Controller Table made by The Bohemian Workbench. This baby is made to look like a classy wooden version of the classic Nintendo controller – but even cooler is the fact that it really works, too.

When you aren’t engaged in epic marathon sessions of Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers (we don’t care what anyone says; that game was awesome), a piece of glass sits on top of the table to protect it and turn it into a fully functional place to set your beer.

The cool-beyond-words controller table is available in a variety of materials to accommodate all budgets, but the solid hardwood version here will run you $3,500. The lower-cost tables made of composite materials are painted to look like the original NES controllers, in case you’re into accuracy in your giant coffee table video game controllers.

Technology design permeates so many areas of our lives, so why not integrate it into our wallpaper as well? The LED Wallpaper designed by Ingo Maurer for Architects paper is a cool high-tech take on traditional wall coverings.

The wallpaper is dotted with patterns of LEDs that either depict geometric shapes or – with the help of printed lines – look like circuit boards.

Depending on your home and the kind of atmosphere you want to create, you can turn the lights way down so they are subtle and their origin is hard to place, or turn them up to encourage a vibrant and energetic space.

The designers don’t go into detail about how the wallpaper is powered, but they do say that it looks just as good hung in small segments as it does covering an entire room.

Lighting a candle when it gets way down low in the container can be hazardous to your fingertips. Most people would either get longer matches or find one of those long-nose barbecue lighters, but a group of Swedish designers called Form Us With Love came up with this slightly more poetic solution.

Their Match candle design is quite elegant in its simplicity. It is a glass votive container that happens to have a small slit down the side – just wide enough to fit a match into. You strike the match and then slide it down the vent to reach the wick, lighting the candle with no uncomfortably singed fingers.

Of course, the design feels a little less appealing when you realize that a set of four of these small glass containers will set you back a whopping $75. For that much, you could buy something like 35 barbecue lighters and never burn your fingers again. But alas, that solution wouldn’t be quite as pretty.
