So you have an iPhone, but your significant other has an Android device, or perhaps you have friends over looking for a charge, which, thanks to this dual-functioning cord, you can now accommodate.

The LMcabe is as simple as it is essential: it can flip easily between either device type, working with Androids as well as Apples, lightning cable tied to MicroUSB. The narrow end is thin enough to slot into both devices. If you need to see it to believe it, here you go:

Lots of caveats, of course, including the fact that this is (at least a goal-met Kickstarter capmaign. Your $15 may take a while to turn into a cable, if it happens at all. And then, by that time, there may already be other solutions like it, or cable conventions could have evolved in general, too (e.g. the new flippable USB).

It could also conceivably be bad for your ports over time, or even the device itself if not engineered properly. One option: wait until it’s out, then decide for yourself after reading reviews, though the price may have gone up by then, too.

With a built-in flashlight and all kinds of nooks and crannies, the idea is to replace basically everything you normally take along with you to accompany your mobile electronic devices – the only catch: it is naturally not big enough to hold a charge itself, but can be used indirectly with other batteries to do that job.

“Smart devices are great. They make our lives more convenient and certainly more productive. Yet, they have always come with quite a number of accessories, which individually provide solutions such as charging battery, standing up your phone for the perfect viewing angle, storing and syncing data…etc. However, many of them are bulky and easy to forget.”

Some critics will wonder if it can be done, but the device has already raised close to $200,000 on IndieGoGo, so clearly a good many backers have faith in the execution as well as the concept. Its creators have also built a number of 3D-printed mockups to demostrate its feasibility.

The Epiphany onE Puck is a compact gadget that ensures you will never have to deal with a dead phone battery again – as long as you have a hot or cold drink handy. The device, roughly the size and shape of a hockey puck, is a small Stirling engine. This type of engine generates energy from temperature differences, and it’s been in use since the early 1800s.

Modern technology has made it possible for the Stirling engine to power new devices in new ways. The onE Puck is efficient enough to completely charge a mobile phone, iPod or any other USB-charged device that draws 1000 mA or less.

The onE Puck works when you place a hot beverage on the red side or a cold beverage on the blue side. The gadget makes it possible to keep a full battery even when you’re away from home or in a foreign country where your phone’s charger won’t work with the outlets.

The Epiphany onE Puck is raising funds on Kickstarter. As of the time of writing, the project has already reached its goal but backers can still get a onE Puck, an Epiphany tee shirt and a sticker for $115.

The ChargeCard is, more or less, a USB cable sans cord. It’s the size and shape of a credit card, so it stores handily in your wallet or pocket. You can keep one in your wallet at all times just in case of an eventual iPhone battery emergency – and you’ll never even know it’s there.

This cool idea earned way more than its goal on Kickstarter, and it’s generated a lot of interest from people who presumably find themselves stranded with a dead phone pretty often. The device comes in two flavors: iPhone/iPod or Micro USB. They’ll each run you $25 – not a terrible price for such a handy little piece of battery insurance.
