Cooking doesn’t come naturally to everyone, but luckily it’s a skill that you can learn. A high-tech pan – the first of its kind – is ready to make you into an expert home chef. The smart frying pan is called Pantelligent, and other than its built-in sensors and Bluetooth connectivity to an associated app, it cooks just like any other frying pan.

No matter what you’re cooking, the Pantelligent keeps track of the cooking temperature so you never have to guess when your food is cooked. The normal methods of checking doneness – cutting the meat open to check the color and using a meat thermometer – are unreliable and too much of a pain, respectively.

The Pantelligent app comes with a built-in cookbook that includes lots of recipes as well as tips on buying and prepping the food before cooking. It leaves no room for interpretation or mistakes as it guides you step-by-step through every detail of cooking your own homemade meal. It tells you when to flip or stir the food, when you need to add ingredients, and when the food is done.

The smart pan doesn’t limit you to its pre-loaded recipes, however. When Mom is visiting and teaches you how to make one of your favorite dishes, the Pantelligent app can be set to “record” mode. In this mode, the pan and the app record the temperatures and steps you take during the course of cooking the meal so you can replicate it whenever you want.

The creators of the Pantelligent are funding their venture on Kickstarter and have already raised more than their initial financial goal. They have high hopes for their creation, predicting that it can even help relieve tension in some relationships where one partner usually does all of the cooking. The retail price of $249 might cause a little tension of its own, though.

The way we take photographs has changed drastically in the past decade. So, too, have the instruments we use. Now more than ever, our important moments are being captured on cell phones and sports cameras like the GoPro. Casio is taking us one step further toward the future of photography with the Exilim EX-FR10, a camera that splits in half to double its photo-taking power.

The Exilim looks a lot like a normal (if somewhat clunky) digital camera in its connected form. It can be used in this form for taking photos, or the viewfinder can swivel around to help you take the perfect selfie. The camera goes one step further, though, by detaching entirely into two parts. The lens unit and controller unit can then be placed and used in separate locations.

The camera’s lens unit comes with accessories that let it be worn on a strap around the user’s neck, on a hat, on a wrist, or clipped to a backpack strap. It can be attached to a tripod for standard, steady shooting.

When separated, the control unit lets the user preview and frame shots. It also comes with a clip and loop so it can be attached securely to the user’s clothing or gear between shots.

Bluetooth lets the two pieces communicate, and both are tough enough to handle dust, rain, and fall of up to two meters. With HD video capability and decent (if somewhat surprisingly low-res) 14 megapixel stills, the Exilim EX-FR10 might be the next must-have adventure camera for outdoor selfie enthusiasts.

You could walk into any electronics store and be confronted by hundreds of wireless Bluetooth speakers, but they would all pretty much look the same. The Om/One breaks the mold with its seriously different form: an orb floating above a glowing blue light.

The Om/One works with Bluetooth 4.0 technology to hook up to your devices for playback, just like any other speaker. As it spins your beats it also rotates above the base, delivering decent sound quality which is even better when it’s paired with a second Om/One.

There’s also a built-in microphone that allows you to use the device as a speakerphone. We can’t speak to the sound quality of the phone setup, but it would definitely be a more attractive option than putting your iPhone on the table and shouting in its direction. The speaker is rechargeable and portable, so if you want to take the orb along with you to a party or just another room it’s easily movable. It can run up to 15 hours on a single charge away from the base.

Om/One is currently crowdraising funds through Tilt for its first production run; the team expects the first shipment to go out in time for the 2014 holiday season. They’re currently offering the Om/One in black, white, and disco ball color options for the early supporter price of $179.

Despite the slick form factor, the price is actually on par with other Bluetooth speakers of similar specs, which makes it seem like a pretty good deal if you’re into things like levitating, spinning speakers – and why wouldn’t you be?

Proper posture is key to the health of your spine and can even make you appear more attractive and successful, but staying upright without slouching is hard work. For those who can’t seem to make standing and sitting up straight a habit, UpRight is an odd but effective gadget that can help you preserve the health of your back and shoulders.

The small plastic device attaches to your back with an adhesive strip. When you put it on for the first time, you calibrate it for your ideal posture. An accelerometer and strain sensor can tell when you begin to deviate from that position and the UpRight will give a little vibration to alert you.

Embedded Bluetooth technology syncs the device with a companion smartphone app. The app lets you formulate your own back health training programs to improve your posture as well as the overall health of your back. The company says that your posture can be improved in a few weeks.

The UpRight comes with 60 adhesive strips, each of which is good for one to two days. It fits discreetly under your clothing and doesn’t interfere with movement (other than improving your posture, of course). The project is raising funds on IndieGoGo for the launch of the UpRight, and the first supporters can get their own for a $59 pledge.

Next time you need a new keyboard, you might be able to pull it right out of your filing cabinet. Creative firm Novalia has created a fully functional keyboard that can be printed right onto a regular sheet of photo paper. The method they’ve devised would be able to print electronics at the rate of 100 m/minute by using metal plates embossed with the required circuits to carry conductive ink.

The conductive ink imbues the paper with the power of capacitive touch. It runs on a small watch battery and connects to your tablet or smartphone via Bluetooth. While you won’t be able to print one out on your office printer, the keyboard can be printed with conventional methods such as screen printing, flexography, and offset lithography. The printing equipment and processes that would make the keyboards are already in use making products like shampoo bottles.

A single semiconductor chip is the brains of the keyboard, which can be made using inexpensive materials like cardboard and plastic in addition to paper and conductive ink. The low cost of the materials leads Novalia to predict that their keyboard will cost an exceptionally reasonable $10. Even more exciting is the fact that the technology could be used to make other super-thin electronics such as touchscreens or trackpads.
