We’re suckers for cool clocks made out of old technology, and this hard drive clock from Etsy seller DIYArtShop is a great example. It was made from a real hard drive with a platter that really spins. Behind the spinning platter is a set of rapidly flashing LEDs which show through a narrow slot cut into the platter. The blue light indicates seconds, the green hand is minutes, and the red hand is hours.
A digital clock display just below the hard drive tells the time in numerals, just in case you’re not in the mood to try to figure out where the hands are pointing on the numberless face. The five background colors light up the display quite nicely, while those dangling LEDs give it a kind of space monster vibe. The wall version of the clock is $97 and the desk version will run you $87, but if you’re feeling creative there are also instructions to create your own.
