Owning a boat means you can go out on the water almost anytime the mood strikes you, but hauling a boat around requires a fair amount of planning ahead. The Fold-A-Boat, designed by Max Frommeld and Arno Mathies, is an ingenious boat made of a single piece of plastic which folds up into a ridiculously small size for easy transport.
The boat isn’t meant for white water rapids or anything more adventurous than smooth waters, but once you unfold it and push it into a calm lake or tranquil canal it is just as stable as any non-folding boat.
In its unfolded state the boat measures a roomy 8.2 feet long. But folded up, it is a mere 5 feet X 2 feet – a size easily managed by one person, especially since it is so lightweight. The obvious potential customers would be those who enjoy boating but don’t want to deal with storing and hauling a boat, or those who are responding to flood-related natural disasters. We’re anxious to see if this concept makes it into production because the idea is absolutely stunning.
