Remember roller blades? Somewhere after skateboards and before Segways, the shoes with the in-line wheels were all the rage. They, of course, fell out of favor rather quickly – but a new type of wheeled shoe thing is rolling in to fill that void in our lives. SpnKiX are a motorized transport system designed by Peter Treadway that will get you from point A to point B much more stylishly than roller blades ever could.
SpnKiX are motorized shoes that strap on right over your own regular shoes. There’s one motor per skate and a hand-held remote control that operates both. From the looks of the remote, the skates couldn’t be easier to use: a single button controls your acceleration. Letting go of it will cause you to quickly lose speed. For those new to this peculiar mode of transport, there are training wheels to help ease the learning curve.
The initial production run is being funded through Kickstarter, with the project reaching its necessary funds well before the deadline. Clearly there are plenty of people who can’t wait to start leaving their cars and scooters at home in favor of a more daring type of personal transport.
