Does anyone read magazines anymore? Most of us get our news and entertainment online, so naturally the magazine industry has some catching up to do in the form of making e-mags easier to buy and read. This concept, presented at SXSW 2010, would let customers simply set their tablet computer down on top of a browsing table and flick their chosen magazine onto their device to purchase. The technology is already developed, fully functional and available today – it’s just a matter of getting it into place in retail locations.

The two devices communicate with each other seamlessly, so that the table recognizes the user logged into the tablet and the tablet receives data from the table effortlessly. Pre-loaded credits on the user’s account allow him to buy a magazine with just the flick of an on-screen icon. A device like this would be incredibly useful in places like airport terminals, where there are always customers but not always a full around-the-clock staff to serve them. Even without cashiers, customers could still feel free to browse the magazine selection and pick up the latest issue of People without the hassle of human interaction.

The post Future Magazine Sales to be Made At Interactive Tables? first appeared on Gajitz.

It seems like you can’t go anywhere or do anything these days without seeing an advertisement. That feeling is about to get just a little more intense. In the September 18th issue of Entertainment Weekly in New York and LA, readers will be able to see the world’s first in-magazine video advertisement. Los Angeles-based company Americhip has developed a 2.7 mm-thick LCD screen which will be used to deliver 25 minutes of video advertisements from CBS and Pepsi.

Americhip has ventured into many other multi-sensory ads in the past, including ads with scents, lighting, and 3D features. But unlike the other multi-sensory ads, the video screens are actually reusable. They can hold up to 40 minutes of video, and the rechargeable battery lasts for up to 70 minutes. The tiny screens include a USB port, which means that after you’re done watching previews for CBS’s fall lineup you can load up your own video and impress your mom with a hand-made video greeting card.

The post Amazing Ads: Reusable Video Screens in Paper Magazines first appeared on Gajitz.
