    <p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22424" alt="tiny working model of macintosh computer" src="https://gajitz.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/tiny-working-model-of-macintosh-computer.jpg" width="468" height="391" /></p>
<p>If you&#8217;re old enough, you&#8217;ll immediately recognize the form of this miniature computer: it&#8217;s a tiny working replica of Apple&#8217;s iconic Macintosh. John Leake of <a href="http://retromaccast.ning.com/profiles/blogs/honey-i-shrunk-the-computer">RetroMacCast</a> built this 1/3 scale model from scratch.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22423" alt="back of mini mac" src="https://gajitz.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/back-of-mini-mac.jpg" width="468" height="417" /></p>
<p>Using a 3.5&#8243; composite monitor, some easily-shaped PVC, a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi">Raspberry Pi</a>, and other various electronic bits, Leake made a tiny functional Macintosh that has some very modern guts.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22422" alt="big mac and little mac" src="https://gajitz.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/big-mac-and-little-mac.jpg" width="468" height="616" /></p>
<p>On the back of the little Apple are two USB ports, an ethernet port, and an HDMI port. The computer charges via USB and has Bluetooth connectivity so you can use a wireless keyboard and mouse to control it.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22421" alt="shrunken macintosh" src="https://gajitz.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/shrunken-macintosh.jpg" width="468" height="624" /></p>
<p>Dealing with such a tiny space meant that Leake had to modify the computer&#8217;s hardware a bit. Some cutting and soldering were needed to get everything to fit into the very small case. While the Macintosh runs System 6 thanks to the Mini vMac Emulator, the floppy disc slot on the front is sadly non-functional.</p><p>The post <a href="https://gajitz.com/tiny-macintosh-replica-is-a-working-copy-of-the-original/">Tiny Macintosh Replica is a Working Copy of the Original</a> first appeared on <a href="https://gajitz.com">Gajitz</a>.</p>

<p>For some reason, making sleek new gadgets look like clunky old ones seems to be a thing these days. To that end, the Padintosh Case for the iPad 2 and 3 wraps itself around your expensive piece of cutting-edge technology to make it look kind of like an impossibly thin version of a 1984 Mac.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-18330" title="padintosh ipad case" src="https://gajitz.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/padintosh-ipad-case.jpg" alt="" width="468" height="468" srcset="https://gajitz.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/padintosh-ipad-case.jpg 468w, https://gajitz.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/padintosh-ipad-case-150x150.jpg 150w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 468px) 100vw, 468px" /></p>
<p>Of course, the case will also provide some protection for your iPad in addition to looking rad. It&#8217;s a shock-absorbing hard casing that will keep your investment safe from your notorious butterfingers. The $25 case is <a href="http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ee17/?i=front">available from ThinkGeek</a>.</p><p>The post <a href="https://gajitz.com/miss-the-80s-rad-ipad-case-takes-you-back-to-days-of-mac/">Miss the 80s? <p><!--wsa:gooold-->Apple&#8217;s public announcements have become streamlined, entertaining events that tons of people tune in to watch. But they weren&#8217;t always the modern, trend-setting spectacles that they are today. Once upon a time, this truly horrible promotional song was a part of a 1984 Apple dealer&#8217;s meeting.</p>
<p><object width="468" height="381"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nbJy0O4UFSM?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /></object></p>
<p>We can&#8217;t really blame Apple &#8211; it <em>was</em> the 80s, after all. But this hilarious bit of Apple history gives a unique reminder of what the company looked like when it was still pretty new. It was played before Steve Jobs took the stage at an Apple dealer&#8217;s presentation in Manhattan to announce the Macintosh and the new generation of Lisa computers. Despite being an obvious ripoff of &#8220;What a Feeling&#8221; from Flashdance, the song in the video is annoyingly catchy, so watch at your own risk.</p><p>The post <a href="https://gajitz.com/we-are-apple-corny-1984-vintage-apple-music-video/">We Are Apple: Corny 1984 Vintage Apple Music Video</a> first appeared on <a href="https://gajitz.com">Gajitz</a>.</p>

<p><!--wsa:gooold-->The 1980s brought us big hair, acid-wash jeans, questionable TV sitcoms, The Breakfast Club, some of the greatest music ever&#8230;and personal computers. The last one is arguably the most significant development of the decade, and it has influenced the way we work and live ever since. These ads from Apple helped to usher in the digital age &#8211; of course, they weren&#8217;t the only company in the game, but their ads have always been some of the most memorable in the business.</p>
<p><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="468" height="376" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/OYecfV3ubP8?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /></object></p>
<p>This <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_(advertisement)">iconic ad from 1984</a> helped introduce the world to the Macintosh. It was famously aired just twice: once during the third quarter of Superbowl XVIII and once in Twin Falls, Idaho (for the purposes of qualifying the ad for award ceremonies). The ad, directed by Ridley Scott, is a graphic allusion to George Orwell&#8217;s classic novel <em>Nineteen Eighty-Four; </em>the heroine in the commercial is saving the world from the conformity of that &#8220;other&#8221; computer company (which was IBM at the time).</p>
<p><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="468" height="376" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Y8AS67yp1OE?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /></object></p>
<p>This ad, also from the year 1984, emphasizes the simplicity of using a Mac. The ad makes it clear that you don&#8217;t need any special skills to use the &#8220;newest, most advanced business computer in the world&#8221; &#8211; you simply have to know how to point thanks to its cutting-edge accessory: the mouse.</p>
<p><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="468" height="376" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/C8jSzLAJn6k?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /></object></p>
<p>Another of Apple&#8217;s first TV commercials (also from 1984, a busy year for the company) seems to parallel Apple&#8217;s current ad strategy by emphasizing the small size and simplicity of use of their products. Back in the 80s, however, Apple didn&#8217;t seem quite as concerned with the hip, modern image they have worked so hard to cultivate in the new century. Instead, the focus was on being a company for the people by promising to deliver &#8220;the computer for the rest of us.&#8221;</p><p>The post <a href="https://gajitz.com/ads-for-the-rest-of-us-3-of-the-very-first-apple-commercials/">Ads for the Rest of Us: 3 of the Very First Apple Commercials</a> first appeared on <a href="https://gajitz.com">Gajitz</a>.</p>
