Remembering to water your houseplants can be tricky. If you want to keep them alive you’ve got to either stick to a watering schedule or figure out a way to get the plants to water themselves.

Designers JiaChen Du, YangHan Wang, WenZai Ye and DanDan Liao of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts designed a self-watering flowerpot that requires far less attention than most others.

The Water Recycling Flowerpot is a double-wall glass structure that allows water to evaporate, collect on the glass and then drop back into the soil. It’s a natural type of irrigation that prevents both over-watering and under-watering.

An added benefit of the flowerpot’s glass walls is that you can see the roots of your plant growing and snaking through the soil.

Home air purifiers, with their irritating, incessant hum and tiny lifespan, don’t serve much more of a purpose than your central air system’s intake vent. They also tend to be a bit of an eyesore. The Andrea Air Purifier, however, wants to split the difference between form and function.

Utilizing the natural air purification power of plants, the Andrea encloses a plant in what looks like a giant pill capsule with a built-in fan. The fan efficiently moves air through the plant’s leaves, soil and roots, exiting the apparatus through a tray of water meant to collect toxins. Co-inventor Tom Hadfield claims Andrea is 1000% more effective at air purifying than a houseplant alone.

Andrea works with a wide variety of houseplants. With its sleek design, it hopes to end the cycle of air purifier disposal. “Today people buy air purifiers and then they go out and they buy a vase,” Tom Hadfield said in an Inhabitat.com interview. “We think the future of indoor air purification might be somewhere in between those two.”

The Flower Power is a sensor that plugs right into your plants’ pots. You program the associated app – on your smartphone or tablet – with the particular type of plant you’re monitoring. The sensor measures the ambient temperature, moisture levels, sunlight, and fertilizer levels, then compares the measurements with optimal conditions for that type of plant.

With a database of 6,000 common houseplants, the Flower Power app is well-equipped to keep you updated on the health of your plants. If conditions are not prime for your plant, the app sends a push notification to let you know what needs to change. Although a price hasn’t yet been announced, the Flower Power will obviously be a boon for countless brown thumb gardeners.

The Click & Grow is an electronic flower pot that takes care of plant care details like watering and fertilizing so you don’t have to worry about them.

Each flower pot comes with a cartridge containing seeds, fertilizer and software. The user plugs the cartridge into the pot, supplies some batteries and a liter of water, then places the pot in a sunny place – and that’s it. The Click & Grow takes care of watering and fertilizing the plant to keep it healthy and happy. When your plant gets to the end of its life cycle and needs to be laid to rest, the cartridge easily comes out to be replaced by another.
