Air bands have been playing without proper instruments for decades, but these days air banding is getting a little more high-tech. Russian cover band Zhuki is the world’s first band to play nothing but iPhone and iPad apps in their studio sessions and live performances. Free from the constraints of actual instruments, the musicians are free to really get into their music.

Using iPhones to play music is nothing new, of course – those apps have been around since the very early days of the iconic smartphone. But an entire band playing nothing but iPhones and iPads is something very novel indeed. Maybe the most surprising thing is that they actually sound pretty decent.
