Kinetic Charger Uses Your Own Footsteps to Charge Gadgets

If you’re anything like us, you look for any excuse at all to avoid going for a jog – and “my cell phone battery is dead” is usually a good one. Unfortunately for lazy people everywhere, kinetic energy chargers are gaining steam as a green power source that requires only your movement to charge your gadgets.

The Kinetic Charger designed by design student Toby Blake is a simple, visually appealing little charger that clips onto your belt to harvest the energy created by your movements. You can plug it into your phone or any other mobile gadget that charges via USB, and the power you make by walking or jogging is fed into your device.

Each tiny charger can hold up to 4 watts of stored energy, and they can be linked together to offer a larger capacity. The Kinetic Charger is just a concept, but we’ve seen several other kinetic chargers in the works so the idea itself seems like a strong one. The form factor is pretty adorable too, which is more than can be said for most mobile chargers.
